Pluto in the Houses- Powerful Transformation
Pluto is a generational planet that moves VERY slowly! It takes over 200 years for Pluto to move through all the signs! This means Pluto’s influence is something that can be observed on a generational level, as much as on an individual level. Pluto’s effect is often clear through popular culture, clothes and music, as well as world events. For an understanding of the ways in which Pluto influences you on an individual level, it is essential to observe the house placement, along with aspects Pluto makes to other planets and angles. This is actually a vitally important step in understanding your journey on Earth. Despite being a small, dark planet, hiding in the cold shadows far away from the Suns light, Pluto has a HUGE effect on our lives and psyches.
Pluto is the planet of transformation! Unfortunately, the kind of transformation Pluto promotes is often incredibly painful, as we are catapulted into our shadow, forced to come face to face with the darkest parts of ourselves. The secret to maximising Pluto’s healing energy is learning to let go and release our ego’s need for control. Pluto can be incredibly destructive if we’re unable to release the parts of ourselves that are outdated and heavy. Sometimes we need Pluto’s intense destruction in order to wake us up and show us what we are capable of! Pluto, being associated with the shadow, can also promote obsessiveness, secretiveness and deviousness in the areas associated with the house it occupies. However, if the lower forms of Pluto are exalted it’s likely we will have a powerful ability to heal others in those very same areas. We are also likely to bring dedication, endurance and strong intuitive skills to these areas, as Pluto can give us enormous reserves of strength and psychic abilities. To find out more about your Pluto placement refer to the descriptions below.
st House- I can often pick people who have Pluto in the 1st house without looking at their chart. They tend to be incredibly magnetic, with an intense vibe. People will tend to gravitate towards these people or be repelled by their intensity, depending on their readiness for healing. Healing and transformation are very much a part of their personality. Simply having a conversation with these people or spending time in their presence can really shift your energy field. Due to their magnetism, it’s common to see celebrities with this placement, especially actors and musicians whose work is deeply dark, catalytic and emotional. If you have your Pluto in the 1st house you’re likely to experience your biggest transformations in life in your sense of self, your individuality, your outer personality and appearance. I often find people with this placement will experience a huge shift in which they let go of everything that isn’t truly in alignment with their highest self, allowing an honest expression of themselves to emerge.
nd House- If you have Pluto in the 2nd House you will experience your biggest transformations in life through finances, resources, security and your values. Often people with this placement have underlying fears or obsessions concerning money or security. They may also have a belief that they don’t deserve abundance. This can lead them to pursue activities for work that are really out of alignment with their true self or accept jobs which pay them poorly. They might be the kind of people that don’t charge enough for their services. Alternatively, their fear of lack can drive them to take jobs they hate that pay well. Ultimately, these people need to establish a sense of safety and confidence in their abilities. On another note, the 2nd house can often reveal areas that bring us wealth. Pluto hear suggests the person could attract abundance in professions such as psychology, medicine, politics, the occult sciences or any other fields that utilise their intense, transformative qualities.
rd House- People with Pluto in the 3rd house often experience their biggest transformation through learning, school, siblings, neighbours, communication, the mind and mental health. They could have a block in their communication or learning abilities when young or issues with a sibling which requires healing. Alternatively, a teacher or sibling could act as a positive, powerful catalyst which changes the direction of their life. The great thing with this placement is it tends to promote a speaking and writing style which is powerful, influential and captivating. People with this placement may have a knack for healing people through words or writing descriptions that provoke emotion in others. The may enjoy writing about taboo topics, such as sex or death, bringing light to shadows that lie under the surface of society. They may also be more inclined to openly describe the experiences of their generation. Writing and communicating are likely to be transformational experiences, and they should be encouraged to express themselves, if not through words then by creating with their hands. Playing instruments may be particularly beneficial for these people, giving them an outlet for their emotional pain. They are often prone to intense anxiety and mental strife. It may be essential to take up meditation and learn to sink into the heart to overcome their anxiety. This too can act as a powerful transformative experience.
th House- This can be a difficult placement, although Pluto is generally at home in the watery 4th house. The 4th house represents a very deep part of an individual, a part of themselves that they may not reveal, but that acts as powerful basis for their actions. People with this placement tend to have an incredibly deep, transformative nature. Their inner life is likely to be very active, with a constant purging and reemerging. The 4th house is also about our roots and family, suggesting these people can experience huge transformations through family relationships and childhood. Their childhood may have included periods of huge change, upset, or even trauma. Pluto in the fourth house can also be an indicator of psychic abilities inherited by ancestors or an influential parent who was very Scorpionic or Plutonic.
th House- This placement can be sign of acting and creative abilities. Often these people will have an enormous reservoir of creative talent, which they may be unaware of. They will often use creativity as an outlet for emotional pain and inner conflict. This means that during times of chaos or pain they will often feel more creative and may produce work at a frenzied pace. This will give their creative output a uniquely dark, deep, explorative and therapeutic tone. When they feel happy they may be less inclined to engage in art. These people will often find that embracing their creativity is the key to healing and regeneration, whether this be professionally or just for fun! On another note, they also tend be very sexual! Having children could be a uniquely transformative experience. Although having children is inherently transformative, these people could find it shifts their whole life and personality structure. They have to make sure they don’t excessively obsess or worry over their children, allowing their kids to have freedom to play and explore their interests. They also have to make sure they don’t forgo their own needs, as there can be a risk of living ‘through’ your children with Pluto here. In spite of this, they do make excellent parents who may be blessed with Plutonic children. For instance, they may have a child who is deep and engaging, perhaps with a Scorpio Sun.
th House- I have this placement! I actually find this aspect of my chart really difficult, although I’m sure a lot of people feel like this in regards to their Pluto placement. Despite the pain it’s initiated, I’m also incredibly grateful for the enormous gifts it’s given me. The 6th house concerns health, routine, exercise, the Earth and healing. Pluto is an obsessive planet, so it’s common for people who have this placement to become obsessed with routines, health and excessively caught up in details. This can manifest in the form of eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and general overwhelm and anxiety. If they are not obsessed with health, they are often highly destructive, with subconscious blocks concerning self-care. Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison come to mind, both of which had a 6th house Pluto. These people can also be highly prone to psychosomatic illness, often because they are highly critical of themselves, picking themselves to pieces. This is sad because these people are born healers, who can make amazing holistic health practitioners and artists. They can also have an amazing ability for in depth research that can help them excel in science, writing and academia. They are problem solvers, who through intellectual endurance and a detail orientated perspective, can completely transform a situation, both on the individual level and the societal level. On a personal level, these people are likely to experience their biggest transformation through health and emotional healing. They also prefer their everyday life to have an intensity to it, which can make them unsuitable for work that isn’t engaging or challenging.
th House- People with Pluto in the 7th house will experience their biggest transformation in life through relationships. We all experience transformation in relationships, however these people are likely to have incredibly profound and revolutionary experiences within their romantic partnerships. Perhaps they meet someone who completely shifts their perspective or have a painful relationship breakup that acts as the catalyst for change. They generally have a subconscious desire to experience healing in relationships, giving them an attraction to Scorpionic types, people who radiate a magnetic, transformative energy. It’s important for them to realise that they themselves are healers, with an enormous ability to help others through emotional and psychological stress. In fact, they may be attracted to psychology or relationship counselling. These people may also be very creative with an aptitude for the visual arts or music. It’s common for them to use painting and drawing as an emotional outlet, giving their art work a distinct depth and emotive quality.
th House- Pluto is at home in the 8th house, due to the house’s association with Pluto and Scorpio. This gives people with this placement a very intense, deep, sexual energy. They will likely go through intense, transformative experiences in life, often surviving extreme events, such as near death experiences. Their life can become very cyclic in nature, as they continually experience periods of calm followed by waves of transformation, continuing to let go of what no longer serves them. This can be very painful if they hold onto a lot of resistance, however the goal is for these people to learn to ‘let’ go and have trust in life. Actively engaging with techniques to heal, change and evolve will prevent more negative experiences occurring which are designed to ‘wake them up’. These people tend be incredibly psychic, with a deep understanding of occult topics and the human psyche. They also tend to be very sexual, with an urge to utilise their sexual energy to heal and transform, something that is entirely possible when people learn to exalt sexual experiences to a spiritual level. It’s common for these people to attract deep soul mate relationships, giving them the opportunity to experience a deep soul merging. They may also experience huge transformation through money, inheritance and joint finances.
th House- I like this placement as it allows people to transform and heal in ways which can be very uplifting, expansive and joyful. Some examples of areas these people may experience change include travel, learning, higher education, religion and spirituality. For instance, these people could go on a trip overseas that completely shifts their perspective or meet a teacher who encourages them to move in a completely different direction. I think the challenging aspect of this placement is the necessity to recognise, purify and refine negative belief systems. Often people with this placement have grown up in strict religious households or been encouraged to believe negative things about themselves or the world. Creating new beliefs that support them through life will be very important, although can be difficult as they tend to go through periods of existential crisis. These people may also need to overcome barriers to learning or travel. Maybe they get stuck in their home town, in a job they hate. They need to realise they're intelligent and ‘see’ all the opportunities in the world! Once they get over these difficulties they can make amazing teachers, utilsing their vast experience to mentor people in a way that produces powerful transformation.
th House- Pluto in the 10th house is often a powerful indicator of a career within a Pluto related field. These people could be powerful healers, occult practitioners, psychologists, surgeons, actors, musicians, politicians, business owners, detectives, tantric teachers or scientists. Pluto gives people a talent in careers that involve transformation, psychic connection, emotional intensity, sex, crisis management, meticulous processing of detail, finances, research, the discovery of secrets and high levels of personal focus and control. People with this placement could carry a powerful underlying desire for power or recognition. It’s important that they acknowledge this or it could manifest in undesirable ways. This longing often eventuates as a result of trauma inflicted by damaging, unethical authority figures. Perhaps they want to feel power to compensate for the lack of control they felt as children. This may have come from a controlling, abusive parent or teachers or spiritual leaders who suppressed or denied their desires and needs. In the positive, people with this placement may feel pulled towards leading others in a way that is positive and ethical. Ultimately, they generally make great leaders with keen insight and an ability to initiate huge change in society and within people. They may make a lot of career changes in their life though, often discovering their true calling after a period of intense transformation.
th House- This is one of my favourite placements for Pluto, mainly because these people often have a strong desire and ability to make change on a societal level. There tends to be an intense interest in human right and environmental protection, accompanied with a tendency to recognise the ways in which the world can be improved. These people want to break down old structures, building a society based on cooperation. Friendships also tend be very important to them and they may attract very transformational people into their life. In fact, they may be subconsciously attracted to deep, intense people whose company pushes them to grow and change. There is also the potential for painful experiences within their friendships that push them to grow and change. Group activities and experiences involving large crowds could also be catalytic, particularly if they utilise their strong leadership skills to initiate positive change. While they make great activists, they have to make sure their methods don’t get too extreme! Alternatively, they may also have a talent for science, engineering, astronomy or any field that requires invention and technology. Their ideas can be inspired by a higher force, although they don’t tend to rely on this cosmic connection, working hard in their quest to discover the nature of the universe.
th House- This a beautiful placement for Pluto, often promoting intense psychic gifts. The 12th house concerns the psychic, etheric realms, everything that lies beneath the surface, ruling our behaviour from the seat of our subconscious. This means Pluto’s influence here can be unconscious at first, however it’s always there, calling you to explore the depth of your own inner world. Until you do, you’ll probably feel like something's missing. Fortunately, once you go through this spiritual awakening of sorts, you’ll discover a wealth of spiritual power, a mastery of the etheric rarely seen. Perhaps you can communicate with the dead, see spirits, travel through different dimensions or heal others energetic field. Before this happens through, people with this placement need to face their shadow, the part of themselves they’ve denied. They run away from themselves, often scared of what they’ll find, perhaps because of dark or difficult experiences as a child. They often reject all that is taboo, sexual or intensely emotional. They might appear to always be happy, or bright, avoiding the pain that lies festering in this house. Once they recognise that this darkness holds their greatest gifts, they can experience a level of integration that will act as an example to others.
